Sara Hayden-Whitty

Counsellor

I’m passionate about supporting children and youth through the critical early years of development, helping them build emotional resilience, self-awareness, and a strong sense of identity. I believe that no young person should be overlooked or underserved, and I’m especially committed to working with neurodivergent children in ways that are engaging, accessible, and affirming. I aim to support emotional growth in ways that protect and preserve the joy, playfulness, and curiosity that make childhood so important.

I draw from evidence-based and developmentally informed approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, strengths-based practices, Attachment Theory, mindfulness, and somatic therapy—always adapting to meet each child’s unique needs and experiences. I strive to create a safe, respectful, and collaborative space where children can feel seen, heard, and empowered.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and am completing graduate studies in Counselling Psychology. My social work background has shaped my practice, grounding it in cultural sensitivity, anti-oppressive values, and an intersectional lens. I understand how early emotional experiences shape long-term well-being, and I’m committed to helping young people overcome challenges without losing sight of their strengths or potential. I am also a member of the Institute of Child Psychology and continue to pursue learning that enhances my ability to support the children and families I work with.
