Laura Deme is an Educational Counsellor at Positive Kids, specializing in executive functioning coaching, structured literacy instruction, and social-emotional skills development. With over 30 years of experience in K-12 and post-secondary education, Laura has served as a Classroom Teacher, Special Education Teacher, Student Success Teacher, Vice-Principal, Principal, and College & University Professor, instructing communications, critical thinking, and writing courses at the post-secondary level.
She holds a B.A., B.Ed., and M.Ed. in Literacy and has completed fourteen Ontario College of Teachers additional qualification courses, including Special Education (Specialist), Guidance, English as a Second Language, Adult Education, Co-operative Education, Mathematics, and the Principal’s Qualification Program.
Laura has extensive experience supporting children and teens with ADHD, Dyslexia, and other learning challenges. She works closely with clinicians and families to provide targeted coaching in executive functioning, self-advocacy, mindfulness, organization, and time management strategies. Her approach helps students strengthen focus, improve emotional regulation, build self-esteem, and develop healthy habits for academic success.
She is highly skilled in writing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), identifying learning gaps, and developing lesson plans that support diverse learning needs. Laura is also passionate about mentoring students, providing social-emotional skills training, and equipping parents with tools to support their child’s learning journey.
In her spare time, she enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, reading thriller novels, volunteering in her community, snowmobiling, and spending time with her family and her dogs.
